What is a Pinata?
Pinata's seem to be a Mexican tradition. The first pinata was made in the shape of a star with seven points. It was traditionally made from a clay pot covered in paper mache and then layers of brightly colored tissue paper. It is filled with candy, sometimes small toys and other goodies. Of course, now Pinatas are made in a variety of different shapes from ice cream cones to animals to cartoon characters. Kids of all ages love to take their turn at swinging an object like a plastic bat or broom handle at the pinata in hopes of breaking it open and seeing all the candy and treats tumble out.
